My father-in-law, Lloyd, made tons of furniture. His daughter, Judy recently brought me an oak small table that was damaged and the finish was worn off. I repaired it, sanded with 220 grit, applied polyurethane, sanded with 220 grit again, and applied final coat of polyurethane. It turned out very nice, but I forgot to take a photo of it.
Judy then brought me a footstool that needed refinished. I applied the same process as for the table...and it turned out pretty nice also:
